Die Tasse (The Coffee Mug)

>open demo [shockwave 8.5+ required]

#images #facts #text

you should have a look at the shockwave version and simply ignore the boring images here

to focus on something

minimize distraction by hiding irrelevant content

a lot of moving coffeemugs

a very haptic example for a well known user interface concept

funfair - the speed of the mouse elevates the coffemug carousel

This portrait of a cup illustrates the complexity of grasping its virtual appearance. With my first multimedia project I tried to develope my own grammar of interactive manipulation. On the one hand the single parts of this collection are just playful ideas of the live of a coffee mug inside a computer, on the other hand the coffee mug is a collection of concepts and ideas that may be used in a more serious way to design better interfaces of human being and software.

Uuuh - sounds pretty serious. When I wrote the previous paragraph in 1997 I was really struggling to find a legitimation for these seeming useless gimmicks. Actually it was just huge fun to discover programming with director, and some fellows had fun playing around with the coffee mug, too.
